A traditional sweet-dish, Halwa is made conventionally using wheat, semolina or gram flour along with sugar, milk, and ghee. It is easy to make, and is a favourite of the young and old alike. In North India, it is usually made in homes during winters; a bowl of hot halwa can keep you warm and comfortable from the cold, While the Wheat halwa is served as prasad or offerings to devotees in gurudwaras, the Semolina halwa is generally prepared during rituals in Hindu homes.

Add more sweetness to your life with some Kerala Halwa!

If you are planning a trip to Kerala, you should not miss out on the quintessential Kozhikode Halwa !  Needless to say, the Kozhikode Halwa is a cut above the rest. The art of preparing Halwa could be attributed to the Turks who visited Kerala in the ancient times for trading spices. Prepared in coconut oil, flavored with a blend of fruits, nuts, and spices, and garnished with nuts and coconut, the Kozhikode Halwa comes in a diverse range of colors and flavors. The base is generally wheat, plain flour or even tapioca, which is  sautéed in generous amounts of coconut oil. It is the abundant coconut flavor that makes Kozhikode Halwa truly exceptional. While the flavoring agents are often spices like cardamom, cloves and nutmeg, and fresh fruits such as Mango or Jackfruit, the sweetening agent is generally sugar, or occasionally jaggery which is far more healthier and gives it a unique flavor.
